Are You Ready for Conversational UX?

With the release of Amazon Lex into the wild creating conversational interfaces is suddenly within reach for anyone with a little bit of dev skill. Being able to do something doesn’t mean that you should do something, but that’s not going to stop a ton of people from dropping poorly designed conversational interfaces that add little value for their users.

I expect that we’ll see the market fill with with a bunch of terrible interfaces, lots of mediocre ones, and a few great ones. We’ll get to see what works and what doesn’t and develop a set of best practices. In the mean time it’s important that we fall back on the principles of good design, that we consider what would benefit the user, and that we iterate until the design feels right.

I’m excited to see what’s over the horizon.
